Abstract: Within the present regulations for the construction of noise barriers, ZTV Lsw 22, the acoustic product certification in non-reverberant environments is based on measurement methods that enable an application in situ. On that basis, the real-world acoustic performance of newly installed noise barriers was examined within a measurement campaign as part of the research project ‘Acoustic condition of new noise barriers’ which started in 2024, tendered and supported by BASt and carried out by AED. The measurements to determine the airborne sound insulation and sound reflection in accordance with DIN EN 1793-6 and DIN EN 1793-5 were carried out at significant sections of ten different noise barriers of different designs built within the last 5 years. The measurement results are presented and compared with the legal requirements of ZTV Lsw 22 and the manufacturer's CE product certificates. In addition, the variation of the measurement results for individual noise barriers is analysed and conclusions regarding potentially relevant non-visible weak spots at real noise barriers are drawn.
