Abstract: Naval ships sensing continuously their environment to detect possible threats. In case of underwater threats the capability by the corresponding technologies depends on the sensor suite and on their own underwater acoustic emission. For research results of fisherry ships and boats the marine environment of interest should not be influenced by the own presence regarding the noise radiation. The knowledge of the own radiation is only based on measurement reports generated at certain times at dedicated ranges. Providing insitu and realtime information of the own underwater acoutic signature to control and access the sucseptibility are the main drivers for the development of a Ship Signature Management System.WTD 71 set up an international project to develope such a system. This presentation is limited to the underwater acoustic signature. A support ship of the WTD 71 is used to collect data sets and will be used to define basic design rules for future naval platforms. The basic design and the first set up will be introduced.
