Abstract: The impact sound transmission from thermally insulated balconies has been addressed and reported in previous work by integrated predictive modelling, on-site measurements, laboratory experiments, and simulations. In this study a detailed experimental analysis of the mechanical behaviour of key structural components of the thermal insulation element, including shear force bars, draw force bars, and thrust bearings, is conducted on a simplified laboratory test setup. In addition, finite element simulations are performed to support the measurements in gaining further insight into the sound transmission properties. The results provide a deeper understanding of the interactions between structural components and impact sound transmission and can be helpful in order to improve the acoustic properties of thermal insulation elements.
