Developing and Producing a High-Performance Microspeaker for ANC Headsets suited for Voice Communication in High Noise Environments

Abstract:
Holmberg GmbH & Co. KG has decades of experience in the development and production of sound transducers for professional use in aviation, fire fighting, law enforcement, emergency services, railway and military. We are one of the few manufacturers in Europe who combine all development and production steps under one roof. The main challenge when developing this microspeaker was to design a high-performance transducer in the shortest time possible as well as making it ready for series production at Holmberg. The resulting high-performance sound transducer is used in an especially robust ANC headset by ODM GmbH. The headset is designed for use in both impulse and stationary volume-intense noise environments. To achieve this, the diaphragm requires a very soft suspension with low resonance frequency.At the same time, a high rigidity of the diaphragm is also crucial to ensuring distortion-free transmission of the mid-speech frequencies for excellent speech intelligibility.We present here how we used simulations and various sample setups to develop an optimized transducer for this application within a few months and make it ready for series production.
