Abstract: Sound of underwater detonation affects the surrounding marine flora. The evaluation is of great importance of the feasibility of future underwater detonations. At the military underwater test area nearby Schönhagen in the western Baltic Sea, underwater explosions are conducted by the German Navy and WTD 71 for several purposes. The induced underwater sound has impact on the surrounding maritime areas of the Bay of Kiel. In order to assess and reduce the underwater sound impact on the marine fauna by appropriate means, the sound levels as well as the sound reduction means (bubble curtain) were to be examined. In November 2022 and September 2023 two explosive campaigns were conducted at the Schönhagen restricted area by the German Navy in cooperation with WTD 71 and further state and federal agencies. The underwater sound levels of different charges with and without sound reduction were determined and the levels regarding different sound propagation paths were quantified and were presented at DAGA2024. The series of explosive campaigns was continued in October 2024 and additional results will be presented.
