Room acoustic measurements in a swimming hall at different atmospheric conditions

When measuring the reverberation time in a room, it is well known that the result, especially at high frequencies, depends on the temperature and relative humidity (RH) of the air. Measurements were made with the integrated impulse response method in a swimming hall under different atmospheric conditions, and as expected the results were quite different at high frequencies (over 1 kHz) due to different air attenuation. The measurements were made in octave bands, and that means that the air attenuation is a non-linear function of the distance of sound propagation. In order to deal with this, the so-called ‘summation method’ was applied to correct the measured impulse responses. When the results were normalized to a standard atmosphere (20 °C, 50 % RH) the derived reverberation times from the different measurement conditions were comparable.
