Stability Assessment for Reliable Free-Field Calibration by Substitution of Sound Level Meters in Ultrasonic Frequency Range

Abstract:
In the realm of occupational safety and health, given the current literature on acoustic hazards, there is an urgent need for international standards that address airborne frequencies exceeding 20 kHz. The areas that require standardization include maximum exposure times, as well as measurement techniques and methods. To support the development of these standards, the IFA of the DGUV did work on a second-order calibration method for the lower ultrasonic range (20 kHz to 50 kHz).Our previous work, presented at DAGA2024, aimed to evaluate the stability of dynamic loudspeakers for free-field calibration using the substitution method. However, a subsequent analysis revealed significant limitations in our uncertainty calculations, particularly in the combination of uncertainties. This poster critically examines the shortcomings of our original approach and proposes a revised methodology to address these issues.
