Abstract: Today extensive use of virtual models and simulation are being applied during the design and development process of a wide range of products. This supports an optimized design prior to realizing the first physical prototype and before the desired acoustical properties can be validated by measurements. This paper documents an investigation of how the acoustic properties of selected materials can be determined by parameter estimation combining simulations in COMSOL Multiphysics and measurements performed using different measurement methodologies. The simulation results and the measurement results are analysed to determine the correlation between the two.
