Towards transmitting vibrotactile touch patterns over the tactile internet

Abstract: Recent pushes in the development of the tactile internet put the haptic modality in the focus of research. As touch plays a key role in our social interactions, enabling this channel of communication for cyber-physical systems has been of special interest. In this short paper, we present a system, which is capable of reproducing plausible continuously moving touch patterns through vibrotactile feedback. Utilizing small shakers and audio interfaces, this system is wearable and enables real time interactions over network. It provides the ability for the user to transmit touch patterns either directly through a sensor-actuator setup or through an interface with a virtual environment.
