Abstract:
In 2021, the room acoustics of the abbey church of the Benedictine monastery Maria Laach situated in the Eifel were investigated in a master thesis, followed by a similar study in 2024 in a bachelor thesis for the basilica of the Spiritans monastery Knechtsteden near Dormagen - both Romanesque basilicas with an eastern and a western apse. Comparable room acoustic measurements already had been carried out in 2001 in the “Dreikonchen“ church of St Aposteln in Cologne. All these room acoustics measurements were carried out and analysed in accordance with EN ISO 3382-1 and guidelines for room acoustic measurements in churches. The performance of the measurements, their analyses and the results are presented here. The values of the room acoustic parameters available, it was possible to evaluate in a comparative study similarities, differences and typical features of the architecture and room acoustic conditions of these three romanesque church buildings in order to place them in the context of other, particularly Romanesque churches.
