Abstract: When determining noise exposure, it is often necessary to identify noise hotspots. Particularly when the scope of possible measures is limited, for example for financial reasons, it is often necessary to evaluate where measures should be prioritised for implementation. While simple methods can be used in smaller communities, the same standards often result in an unmanageable number of noise hotspots in larger cities. For mappings on larger level, e.g. in the noise mapping of federal states or whole national road or rail networks according to the END, common methods might fail. The presentation summarises various known methods for identifying noise hotspots and identifies advantages and disadvantages. In addition, new methods are presented which can be used to cluster noise hotspots even for large-scale mapping. The main aim of this is to combine spatially related noise exposures in such a way that line-related measures, such as low-noise road surfaces or speed limits, can be considered efficiently.
