Abstract: Digital microelectromechanical system (MEMS) microphones are compact devices that provide high-fidelity sound capture and can be integrated into electronic products, such as smartphones and headphones. Nowadays, applications, MEMS microphones not only record ambient sounds but also offer advanced features, including active noise cancellation, directional capabilities, and voice recognition. These advantages make digital MEMS microphones essential components in modern consumer electronics, enhancing the audio experience and enabling sophisticated audio processing functionalities. Currently, calibration standards exist only for single microphone. To enhance the accuracy and convenience of digital MEMS microphone calibration, this paper proposes a substitution-based method for calibrating a digital MEMS microphone array in free field. The measurement procedure covering the range from 100 Hz to 12 kHz along with a sensitivity parameter suitable for digital microphones, is presented together with an uncertainty analysis.
