Abstract: Previous models for listener envelopment have typically considered the long-term interaural coherence (IC) and interaural level difference (ILD) as relevant perceptual cues. While the IC and ILD are measures that can be evaluated very efficiently, they do not explain all perceptual aspects underlying listener envelopment. Recent experiments have demonstrated conditions of low IC and low ILD that are not perceived as fully enveloping, for example a frontal stereo setup reproducing broadband uncorrelated signals. Modeling listener envelopment based on auditory localization distributions seems a promising alternative and is explored in this work.
