Noise and health assessments from a child course approach

Abstract:
The presentation describes the importance of undertaking a life course perspective for the assessment of children’s noise exposure and health. It stems from a child’s specific vulnerability, including exposure, susceptibility to effects and capacity to respond. Children are differentially exposed to noise, due to their physiology, activity pattern and behaviors as well as places for exposures. Children’s vulnerability vary during development and growth and together with biological, and external exposures determine the risk for health outcomes and in particular health trajectories. The presentation will provide examples of children’s noise exposures and risk for health effects from their early age environments. Incorporating a child course perspective will allow us to consider the timing, frequency, and accumulation of exposures, emphasizing that a child’s exposure and vulnerability may vary across different developmental phases.
