Sound insulation measurements of newly built acoustic laboratory test rooms

Abstract:
When building a new acoustic laboratory, the test rooms need to have high level of sound insulation performance to mitigate influence of background noise. However, measuring the insulation of laboratory rooms can be quite challenging due to the lack of specific ISO standards. Therefore, available ISO standards for more classic rooms are used in addition to knowledge from other laboratory construction. This project is about measuring the actual sound insulation of the test rooms from ROCKWOOL’s newly built laboratory by following two different standards. The first one, ISO:16283-1, involves sound pressure level measurements while the second one, ISO:15186-2, involves sound intensity level measurements. Both compute the apparent sound reduction index. This paper presents the results of the measurements and the challenges faced during the project.
