Abstract: In 2021, ISO 23591 standardized the acoustic quality criteria for music practice rooms. This standard provides valuable guidance for the design and use of music education facilities, contributing to the development of skilled instrumentalists. "Gugak," Korean traditional music, is taught, and performers are trained at major national institutions. Recently, Korean music content has been introduced internationally. However, the acoustic characteristics of traditional Korean houses, where Gugak is often performed, are characterized by relatively short reverberation times and a flat frequency response. This study examines the acoustic properties of Gugak instruments and practice rooms, as well as the preferences of Gugak performers regarding the acoustical characteristics of these spaces. The results are then compared to the acoustical characteristics of Hanok (traditional Korean houses).
