Abstract: Amongst others, noise exposure is one hazard measured within a voluntary quality management system (QMS) at the Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung (DGUV). In total more than 200 persons are qualified for noise measurements within this system. This provides an ideal basis to gain insight to yet not deeply investigated noise exposures at certain types of workplaces. In our case, the noise exposure at welding workplaces lacks a systematic understanding that would be helpful for preventive measures as well as for a retrospective view when assessing applications for occupational diseases. We set up a measurement program to recruit a maximum of the personnel capacity and ensure a homogeneous quality of measurement results at the same time. The goal is to systematically investigate welding noise at workplaces under realistic conditions and in dependence of various parameters specific to the welding process. We present the approach to designing this measurement program together with measures taken to ensure a consistent data quality that enables a statistical evaluation of all collected measurement data. As the program is just about to start, data collection and evaluation is pending.
